Are you still looking for a proper cavesson for your horse and don't know which model is the right one? Then you've come to the right place. In this article we will introduce you in detail to our Spanish-style cavesson Serreta.

structure of the Serreta

nose iron: The Serreta has a solid, leather-covered nosepiece, which has a flat, optimized shape and is therefore suitable for many horse noses. The nosepiece ensures a stable fit and stays in place even when jumping for joy. It also allows very precise control of the horse. Since the nosepiece has no joints, there are no unwanted shearing forces.

Rings: The Serreta is available in a one-ring and three-ring version. The middle ring is always rotatable and allows the lunge line to rotate when lunging. The outer rings of the three-ring version are close to the nose piece and therefore do not interfere when lunging.

Belt: The cavesson has a noseband and a headpiece with cheek piece. The straps are adjustable for an optimal fit. In addition, the noseband can be individually moved and adjusted to the horse's eye. This prevents the cheek strap from slipping too close to the horse's eye.

At Picadera we offer the Serreta in the traditional Spanish design with burnished fittings and the Serreta Iberico in the Portuguese style with chic Cortesia buckles. Both models are available in a one-ring version and a three-ring version. Here you can find an overview of the two cavessons.

What are the advantages of the Serreta cavesson?

  • hand and ground work: The rings on the flat and padded noseband allow you to have a very direct influence on the horse. This allows you to explain the aids precisely during hand and ground work.
  • Lunging: The middle ring on the nosepiece of the Serreta is rotatable. This makes it perfect for buckling Lunges & Ropes because it rotates with the movements of the lunge. Another plus point is the fixed nosepiece, which does not slip when lunging. This allows for very precise and direct action, which makes the Serreta ideal for training young horses.
  • Bitless riding: The outer rings of the Serreta Pro variant are very well suited to Reins This allows for fine riding without a bit. Even a young horse can be taught the first aids before it is accustomed to a bit.
  • Combine cavesson with bit: In Spain, the Serreta is traditionally used very often for riding in combination with a bit. For this, the additional use of a semi-bridle is recommended. This is then simply buckled onto the bit over the cavesson. This allows flexibility during the training session, as the semi-bridle with bit can be easily removed again. This is also a gentle way to get a young horse used to a bit.

Manufacturing, quality and fit of the Serreta

Because we attach great importance to quality and want our customers to enjoy our products for a long time, our Serreta cavesson is made exclusively by hand in Spain. Durable, vegetable-tanned cowhide is used for the leather straps. The cavessons are sewn with a saddler's seam, which is much more durable than a machine seam because each stitch is knotted individually. The high-quality fittings made of burnished iron and the Cortesia buckles also come from Spain.

The Serreta is produced in the Iberian standard size. We have found that thanks to the optimized nosepiece, it fits a wide range of horse noses with VB and WB heads. If you are unsure about the size, please take a look at the size guide. You can find it directly on all of our cavessons.

Differences to the traditional Spanish Serreta

The Serreta is very popular in Spain and on the Iberian Peninsula and is often used in horse training. The Serretas used here often have small teeth on the inside of the nosepiece. At Picadera we sell the Serreta in a horse-friendly version. It has a flat nosepiece without teeth or spikes. We have also dispensed with the traditional long pillars to which the rings on the nosepiece are attached. Our Serreta cavesson has tight-fitting rings with short pillars so that they do not interfere when buckling the lunge line.

Traditional classic reinterpreted

The Serreta cavesson is considered a traditional Spanish classic and is a great companion in horse training. It can be used flexibly and, thanks to its stable seat, is also suitable for training a young horse. In the three-ring version, you also have the option of using the Serreta as a bitless bridle.

Hello, I'm Myriam and I take care of customer service and shipping at Picadera. I'm also currently doing further training in marketing.
Since horses have always played a big role in my family, I was able to gain a lot of experience at a young age. The two English thoroughbreds Antarro and Belle Indomita have been part of the family for some time now.
In addition, my riding partner Lukas, a German riding pony, has been my faithful companion for many years. He is a pretty good teacher who has taught me a lot and helped me improve my riding skills. Since Lukas has now reached retirement age, we spend most of our time on beautiful rides in the countryside and free work from the ground.
