Spanish Curb Bits
Spanish Curb Bits
The Spanish curb bit is the traditional bit of the Doma Vaquera and is ridden bare, i.e. without a snaffle. By pulling on the reins, the leverage is exerted from the tongue, over the jaw and from there over the cheek pieces of the bridle to the poll. The curb chain is clamped into the curb chain hooks and should sit flat in the chin pit. It is important that the curb chain is hooked in untwisted. The Spanish curb bit can be ridden with one or two pairs of reins.
Picadera offers the VAQUERO curb bit in stainless steel and burnished iron. The rider can choose between two mouthpiece variants. The Mullen Mouth variant lies particularly quietly in the gap in the mouth and works across the entire tongue. This is particularly advantageous for horses with thicker tongues. The mouthpiece variant with little tongue clearance relieves the middle of the tongue.
The VAQUERO pump bit has a vertically movable mouthpiece that encourages the horse to chew. This means that the horse's mouth is less tense and the relaxation is distributed across the neck and back and throughout the entire body.
The VAQUERO training curb bit is available in two mouthpiece versions. The upper bar is longer than the other Spanish curb bits, so that the bit is in a particularly stable position. The lower bar is shorter and thus creates a mild leverage effect. The bit is well suited for young horses that need to be accustomed to the curb bit. The foam bar connects the curb bars to each other and ensures that the horse cannot catch the side parts with its lips.
All Spanish curb bits are available in burnished iron. This material oxidizes naturally and forms rust, which encourages horses to produce more saliva.
