On to the high school – with a double bridle

In classical riding, horses are converted to a curb bit after basic training. This means that from now on there is room for two bits in the horse’s mouth: A curb bit, a bar bit with attachments, as well as the so-called bridoon, which has a smaller diameter than a normal snaffle bit. Because there are two bits in the horse’s mouth, it is also ridden with two pairs of reins. Most of the time, the young horse’s transition to a curb bit and bridoon works well. At first, the curb rein – which is usually a bit narrower than the snaffle rein – can still be placed on the neck or picked up very loosely. Gradually, the horse then gets used to the action of the curb bit.

To buckle both bits, a special curb bridle is needed. It differs from the snaffle bridle mainly by an additional cheek piece, respectively an additional strap.

Double bridle CORELLI

This model in Portuguese style is ideal as an eye-catcher on special occasions – but also for everyday training. The curved Cortesia buckles and the narrow straps give this double bridle a noble look. On the large, angular heads of Lusitanos – but of course also on any other breed – the CORELLI model looks particularly sleek and stylish.

Colors and fit

The CORELLI double bridle also fits thoroughbreds and warmbloods very well, since most of the straps can be adjusted either very long or very short.

The neck strap is anatomically cut behind the ears to take pressure off this sensitive region. As is common with snaffle bridles, the noseband passes through two tabs in the cheek piece. In the double bridle, the curb bit is buckled into this strap. The bridoon is buckled into the additional cheek piece strap in such a way that the two bits do not overlap in the horse’s mouth.

Because the color of the double bridle should match the rest of the equipment, it is available in three leather colors – each with silver- or gold-colored Cortesia buckles. So no compromises have to be made.

A bridle for the whole training

Another plus of this smart bridle is its great flexibility. Thanks to the removable extra headpiece, it can be used for riding on snaffle – as well as ridden on curb with one or two reins. In order to ride on a curb bridle, only the underlay strap has to be slid back under the neck strap.

So once purchased, you have all the options. It can make sense to buy a curb bridle for a young horse, train it on a snaffle first and then switch to a curb bit. This long journey makes the double bridle CORELLI with good care without problems due to its excellent quality.
