Bit accessories at Picadera

At Picadera, riders can find the right bit accessories for Spanish, Portuguese and baroque bits. Chin chains act on the chin pit when the reins are pulled. They must lie flat and have a certain width. Picadera offers different models in  in the colors silver, gold and black. The HIERRO and ACERO chin chains are also available in a wider version for Spanish bits. The bit accessories are also available in a stainless steel edition for English and Spanish bits. 

Every horse reacts differently to certain aids, and every aid exerts different pressure. Riders who have a more sensitive horse can use the HIERRO chin chain. This model is available in a leather-covered version to distribute the pressure more evenly. This also makes it particularly quiet and stable in the horse's chin pit. 

The BALAO models also have a shearing ring so that a shearing strap can be attached to the bit. This prevents the horse from pulling the curb bits into its mouth. The BALAO curb chain fits English and Iberian bits. 

Correctly attaching the chin chain

When attaching the chin chain, it is important to ensure that the chin chain is not twisted. The tighter the chin chain is fastened, the more the leverage is limited and the pressure on the bar increases. If the chin chain is attached too loosely, it no longer has any effect. Ideally, a finger should fit between the chin chain and the chin pit. 

Lever bits, such as curbs, Pelham or Kimblewick, are already equipped with chin chain hooks. Despite this, it may be necessary to retrofit them. Picadera offers two different chin chain hooks made of stainless steel or burnished iron for attaching the chin chains. The shorter version of the ACERO and HIERRO models is intended for English bits, such as Baucher bars or English curbs, while the longer chin chain hooks are specifically designed for Spanish bits, such as Spanish curbs and Pelham. 

To protect the corners of the mouth, Picadera offers bit guards in four neutral colors. This means that the right bit guards can be found for every coat or equipment color without attracting too much attention. 

It is recommended to rub items made of burnished iron with olive oil to counteract the natural oxidation process typical of this material.
