Hemp ropes & hemp lunges

Hemp ropes & hemp lunges

The hemp plant used to be very popular due to its high yield and versatile uses. But it has increasingly become a niche product.

Ropes made from hemp fibres are an underestimated alternative to conventional synthetic ropes.

They are more abrasion resistant than natural cotton ropes and are more robust and durable. They can also absorb eight percent of their own weight in water, which means they do not feel wet or lose their grip.

However, the ropes should not be left to the elements, as these products can also rot if exposed to constant moisture.

Another big advantage over synthetic ropes is their high heat resistance. Friction generates less heat, which reduces the risk of burning your hands when the horse pulls on the rope.

Hemp ropes are stronger than synthetic fiber ropes and therefore hang more calmly in the air during ground work. This prevents confusion when giving aids, as the rope does not swing unnecessarily. This allows for more direct communication between horse and rider. Even though the rope is stiffer than conventional ground work ropes, its round braiding makes it comfortable to hold and it also becomes softer over time.

Hemp ropes & hemp lunges for ground work/lunging at Picadera

The hemp ropes at Picadera are available in two different lengths. The six-meter-long ropes are ideal for ground work or hand work with the horse. The eight-meter version is perfect for lunging. The hemp ropes have a ten-centimeter-long leather sheath at the end. The rope is attached to the cavesson or halter with a leather buckle and thus lies particularly quietly on the horse's head. The hemp ropes are available in brown and black leather.
