Baroque Baucher bit made of gold-coloured brass with bar mouthpiece
Baucher bit made of gold-colored brass with a solid bar mouthpiece. The decorated side parts with floral patterns in the Portuguese Cortesia style make the Baucher bar a baroque eye-catcher.
The mouthpiece has a bit thickness of 17 mm at the edge and tapers to 8 mm in the middle. This ensures optimal pressure distribution in the area of the soft tissue in the corners of the mouth. At the same time, the mouthpiece requires less space inside the mouth.
The slight vertical play at the connection between the mouthpiece and the side parts also encourages chewing and the horse can position the mouthpiece a little more in the mouth - in contrast to a Baucher bit with a fixed connection. This also means that rein aids are less direct, similar to a loose ring snaffle. This also compensates for slightly unsteady hands, for example.
For horses with sensitive mouth corners, we recommend the use of rubber bit discs, as is common with Iberian curbs or Pelhalms.

Effect of the Baucher bit
The bridle is fastened using the oval eyelets on the upper bars. In combination with the unbroken bar, the Baucher bit sits very quietly and stably in the mouth. Many horses like the bar mouthpiece because it sits evenly on the tongue and is cushioned by it. The small amount of tongue space relieves pressure on the middle of the tongue. The slight play at the connection between the mouthpiece and the upper bars also encourages chewing.
The Baucher bit is used without a chin chain and has no leverage. Instead, when the reins are pulled, the bit moves more towards the corner of the mouth and has an effect there. This has an uprighting effect on many horses.
The right size for the Baucher bit
Under "Size Guide" (see above) you will find the actual dimensions of the mouthpiece. If you are unsure, we recommend that you compare the actual dimensions of your existing bit with those of the Baucher bit to find the right size. Please note that the side parts should fit tightly to the corners of your horse's mouth. If your horse is undecided between two sizes, we recommend that you choose the larger size for this model.

Great bit, my horse loves it. He chews a lot and is happy. The small amount of play means he can position the bar as he needs it. It is a bit heavier than a normal snaffle, which has its own effect. My horse generally prefers double-jointed bits because he likes to play with them. The bar with tongue freedom seems to be just what he wants. It is quiet in his mouth and he still has the freedom to play with his tongue, also because there is a small amount of play for higher/lower. It is beautifully made and of very high quality. The best bit I have ever held!
