Double-jointed Baucher bit made of black burnished iron with flat sides
Traditional Baucher bridle made of burnished iron with a double-jointed, solid mouthpiece. With flat Spanish-style side parts. Bit thickness 20 mm, tapering to 15 mm towards the middle and slightly anatomically curved forward. The special shape results in improved, broad pressure distribution in the area of the soft tissues on the lips. At the same time, the mouthpiece requires less space in the mouth in the middle of the tongue.
The Baucher bit is made in Spain. For horses with sensitive mouth corners, we recommend using rubber bit discs, as is common with Iberian curbs or Pelhalms.

Effect of the Baucher bit
The bridle is fastened using the short upper bars. This means that the Baucher bit is more stable in the mouth, offers lateral adjustment using pressure on the horse's cheek and sags less than, for example, a classic loose ring snaffle. Even when chewing, it can only be moved minimally towards the incisors. This is a particular advantage for horses with a short mouth gap. The slight vertical play at the connection between the mouthpiece and the upper bars also encourages chewing. Through natural oxidation processes and the formation of rust, the burnished iron stimulates saliva production. This is also supported by the copper content of the brass centerpiece.
The Baucher bit is used without a chin chain and has no leverage. Instead, when the reins are pulled, the bit moves more towards the corner of the mouth and has an effect there. This has an uprighting effect on many horses.
The right size for the Baucher bit
Under "Size Guide" (see above) you will find the actual dimensions of the double-jointed mouthpiece. If you are unsure, we recommend that you compare the actual dimensions of your existing bit with those of the Baucher bit to find the right size. Please note that the side parts should fit tightly to the corners of your horse's mouth. If your horse is undecided between two sizes, we recommend that you choose the larger size for this model.
Care instructions for burnished iron
Rust will form on traditional, burnished products or product components after some time. This is due to natural oxidation processes and is not a quality defect, but an essential and intended characteristic of this material. To maintain the dark color, it is recommended to occasionally rub the affected parts with a cloth soaked in olive oil.

The more than 160-year history of Frenería y Romanas López
Frenería y Romanas López is a craft business founded in 1850 and based in Cortegana, Andalusia. The town is known for its many traditional craft businesses, which primarily serve the agricultural production in the region. The ancestors of the current owners supplied bits and spurs for local riders. At López, the love of craftsmanship and the secrets of producing high-quality metal goods have been passed down from father to son for five generations. Over the centuries, the blacksmithing skills and manufacturing processes have been constantly refined. Even today, López combines modern manufacturing processes with traditional craftsmanship. Without losing the craftsmanship knowledge, traditional products of high quality and contemporary variety are still manufactured.Spanish bits, stirrups and spurs
López has specialized in the manufacture of metal goods for Spanish and Portuguese riding styles, such as bits, stirrups, as well as plug-in spurs and vaquera spurs. The products produced by López at the Cortegana facility are marked with the “López” seal of quality. At Picadera you will find selected metal goods from López, such as broken bits (Baucher bit, Schenkeltrense, Kimblewick) and bar bits (Baucher bit, Kimblewick, Pelham, Baroque curb bit, Spanish curb bit), as well as Spanish vaquero spurs and Portuguese plug-in spurs.
