- Anatomical shape: Our felt saddle pads have an anatomical back line and fit a variety of horses with different withers shapes. We recommend only slightly tucking the felt saddle pad in at the front when saddling. The felt saddle pad should lie flat in the back of the saddle.
- Material thickness: We have chosen a thickness of 5 mm so that the felt saddle pad can also be used alternately with classic cotton saddle pads without the need to adjust your saddle again.
- Belt loops: Our felt saddle pads are equipped with continuous leather loops for your saddle girth. We have deliberately dispensed with additional girths to avoid seams in the upper back area. The felt saddle pad still stays in place when riding - the prerequisite for this is that the saddle fits perfectly.
- Designed in Germany, manufactured in the EU: Like all our Picadera products, the felt saddle pad has undergone a careful development process and has been tested on our horses. It is made for you in Spain.
Why a felt saddle pad?
Wool felt has been used for thousands of years and is a truly wonderful material with many wonderful properties. In the form of a felt saddle pad, it is also an asset to any horse's back:
- Shape-retaining & elastic: Wool felt retains its shape due to the density of its fibers and is still elastic when subjected to pressure. The felt saddle pad can therefore perfectly adapt to the shape of your horse's back.
- Breathable & temperature regulating: Wool felt absorbs up to a third of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet. Water droplets roll off, while water vapor can escape through the material. This means that wool felt can keep you cool in summer and warm in winter - just like the sheep from which the natural material comes.
- Self-cleaning & dirt-repellent: The lanolin (wool fat) contained in wool felt and the felt structure not only allow water to bead off, but also make it harder for dirt to penetrate. Wool felt is also antistatic, meaning it is less likely to attract dry dirt than other textiles.
- Skin-friendly: Natural wool felt does not cause skin irritation and can prevent hair breakage in horses with sensitive skin during the coat change.
- Tear-resistant & durable: The dense fibers make the wool felt extremely tear-resistant and dimensionally stable – ideal for regular use in or under the saddle.

I am not satisfied at all. The saddle pad looks good and is the right size for my saddle, but unfortunately it slips backwards when I'm riding. Bad buy.

Of course, I am still sorry that you are not yet convinced by its functionality. We have deliberately dispensed with additional straps for fastening it to the saddle, as wool felt itself is non-slip. For this it is important that the saddle fits perfectly. During the development phase we did adjust the felt saddle pad to the usual thickness of cotton saddle pads. However, if a thicker saddle pad was used before, for example, it may happen that when using our felt saddle pad it becomes apparent that the saddle does not sit evenly. Unfortunately, my saddle slips forward when I use the saddle pad. I don't have this problem with other saddle pads.

Wool felt is generally considered to be slip-resistant because it is "fur on fur". The prerequisite is that the saddle fits perfectly. We tested the felt saddle pad extensively in this regard during the development phase and adjusted its thickness to the usual thickness of cotton saddle pads. If thicker saddle pads have been used before, it may happen that when using our felt saddle pad it becomes apparent that the saddle does not sit evenly on the back. If the saddle slips, we generally recommend checking the fit of the saddle first. Great saddle pad, I've been looking for one like this for a while. It sits well on the horse's back and under the saddle, and even without the option to fasten it at the front it doesn't slip. I would have liked it to be thicker (1 cm instead of 0.5 cm), which is why I'm only giving it 4 stars. Thicker would be perfect.
