Pelham in Vaquero style with Mullen Mouth mouthpiece
Vaquero Pelham made of black burnished iron with a solid Mullen Mouth bar mouthpiece. With flat sides in the Spanish style. For horses with sensitive mouth corners, we recommend using rubber bit discs, as is common with Iberian curbs or Pelhalms. The Pelham is made by Lopez in Spain.

Effect & use of the bit
The Vaquero Pelham allows for a gentler impact thanks to the movable side parts in combination with the large rings on the mouthpiece. It is also a proven transition bit from a snaffle to a curb bit.
The Mullen Mouth bar mouthpiece, optimized and anatomically shaped by Lopez, is well received by many horses because it sits very evenly on the tongue and is cushioned by it. The Mullen Mouth mouthpiece, which is curved along its entire length, is particularly suitable for horses with very thick and fleshy tongues. The burnished iron stimulates saliva production through natural oxidation processes and the formation of rust.

Under "Size Guide" (see above) you will find the actual dimensions of the Mullen Mouth mouthpiece. If you are unsure, we recommend that you compare the actual dimensions of your existing bit with those of our mouthpiece to find the right size. Please note that the sides of the Pelham should fit tightly to the corners of your horse's mouth.
Care instructions for burnished iron
Rust will form on traditional, burnished products or product components after some time. This is due to natural oxidation processes and is not a quality defect, but an essential and intended characteristic of this material. To maintain the dark color, it is recommended to occasionally rub the affected parts with a cloth soaked in olive oil.
