Hats & Caps

The traditional Spanish hat - the icing on the cake of the riding outfit

Picadera has an exquisite selection of traditional hats for riding, as protection from the tides or to combine with a whole favorite outfit. The CORDOBES CAÑERO riding hat is available in 5 different designs.

The classic felt hat in the Vaquero style is traditionally wide-brimmed - with a brim width of 9.5 cm - and made by hand in Spain. It is pleasantly light to wear and weighs just 160 g. The 100% wool felt is breathable and the satin lining nestles gently against the head. The design is rounded off with a classic chin strap and a matching hat band.

The hats at Picadera are manufactured directly in a small factory in Spain. The headgear impresses with its design, quality craftsmanship and high-quality materials. The Vaquero hat is not only worn by riders, but also with elegant outfits or even evening wear.

The felt hats from Picadera are available in sizes 54-61 as standard.

The hat size - Measure your head correctly in 3 steps

As helmet sizes are usually variable nowadays, they do not usually provide an exact indication of how large the head circumference actually is. For this reason, it is helpful to measure your head as follows.

  1. Place the measuring tape horizontally around the head 1 cm above the eyes and ears.
  2. The band must fit snugly but not cut in.
  3. Read the head circumference at the intersection of the measuring tape.

If no measuring tape is available, a non-stretchable cord and folding rule/ruler can be used as a substitute. The easiest way to do this is for a second person to make the markings on the string to avoid deviations.

Fine materials for the hats from Picadera

Wool felt, the classic all-rounder

Felt is not woven, but is created through a mechanical process known as fulling. The wool is cleaned, combed, processed into a fleece and finally milled with high pressure and water. This results in a high-quality wool fleece at the end of the process. The fibers are bonded together and cannot be separated. This elaborate process produces the wool felt:

  • weather-repellent
  • dirt-repellent
  • Breathable
  • quick-drying

and stores a large volume of water without feeling wet. This makes it the ideal companion at any time of year.

Satin, the noble flatterer

The inner lining of our hats is made of satin. It is particularly elegant and nestles gently against the head. Satin also prevents hair breakage and clings to the head without losing its grip.

Riding clothes of the Vaqueros and the Vaquera

The Vaquero and the Vaquera are the Spanish mounted cattle herders who have remained true to their style for decades. The riders are still very important in cattle breeding today. The training riding style Doma Vaquera developed from this area of work. This is now becoming increasingly popular in sporting competitions.
