Bit accessories at Picadera
At Picadera riders can find the right bit accessories for Spanish, Portuguese and Baroque horses bits. curb chains act on the chin groove when the reins are pulled. They must lie flat and have a certain width. Picadera offers different models for this in the colours silver, gold and black. The curb chain HIERRO and ACERO are also available in a wider version for Spanish bits. The bit accessories are also available in a stainless steel edition for English and Spanish bits .
Each horse reacts differently to certain aids, and each aid exerts different pressure. Riders who have a more sensitive horse can use the curb chain HIERRO. This model is available in a leather-covered version to distribute the pressure more evenly. It also lies particularly quietly and stably in the horse's chin groove.
The models BALAO have an additional shearing ring for optionally attaching a shearing strap to the bit . This prevents the horse from pulling the curb bit into its mouth. The curb chain BALAO fits English and Iberian bits.
The correct hanging of the curb chain
When attaching the curb chain , make sure that the curb chain is not twisted. The tighter the curb chain is buckled, the more the leverage is limited and the pressure on the drawer is increased. If the curb chain is fastened too loosely, it will no longer have any effect. Ideally, a finger should fit between curb chain and the chin groove.
Lever bits, such as curb bits, Pelham or Kimblewick, are already equipped with curb chain hooks. Despite this, it may be necessary to retrofit. For attaching the curb chains, Picadera offers two different curb chain hooks made of stainless steel or burnished iron. The shorter version of the ACERO and HIERRO models is intended for English bits, such as Baucher bit or English curb bit, while the longer curb chain hooks are specially designed for Spanish bits, such as Spanish curb bit and Pelham.
To protect the corners of the mouth, Picadera offers bit guards in four neutral colours. This way, the right bit guards can be found for every coat or equipment colour without drawing much attention to it.
It is recommended to rub articles made of burnished iron with olive oil to counteract the natural oxidation process that is typical for this material.
