Kimblewick & Pelham

Kimblewick & Pelham

The Kimblewick is a subform of the Pelham. Both types of bit have a leverage effect.

The jumping curb - the Kimblewick

The Kimblewick is often also called a jumping curb bit or baby curb bit. It has D-shaped bit rings, which usually even have individual recesses for attaching the rein in the desired position - top and bottom. If the rein is attached in the upper recess, the jumping curb bit acts like a normal snaffle bit or like a Ported Baucher Bit, depending on the type of mouthpiece. If the rein is hooked in the lower opening, there is a little leverage that acts like a Curb Bit . Of course, you can also just hook the reins into the D-rings for a flexible action. If the horse takes the head too low, the rein slides up and the Kimblewick acts without leverage. If the horse holds its head too far up, the rein slides down and the curb action kicks in.

At Picadera there is the Kimblewick with single broken mouthpiece or as ported mouthpiece. The Kimblewick ported mouthpiece VAQUERO also offers the advantage of being able to hook in two reins. It is available with flat Spanish-style sides in stainless steel. It is available in the version with a low port or as the Mullen Mouth version. Here the bit lies evenly on the tongue and thus also offers a pleasant feeling to horses with fleshier tongues.

The effect of the Pelham

The Pelham is ridden four rein in the Iberian riding style. It has a milder effect than a more classical Curb Bit. Because of this, it is also a transition bit and suitable for horses that are to be accustomed to the Curb Bit or for riders:inside who want to familiarize themselves with the leverage effect. This also applies to the jumping curb bit.

The Pelham VAQUERO is made of burnished iron and stimulates the horse's salivation because of its noble rust formation with the natural oxidation processes. The Pelham is available as ported mouthpiece with a small port, but also as Mullen Mouth for horses with thicker tongues. It is designed with flat Spanish style sides. For horses with sensitive mouth corners there is the bit guards from Picadera.
