Hemp ropes & hemp slings

Hemp ropes & hemp slings

The useful plant hemp used to be very popular due to its high-yield cultivation and versatile uses. But more and more it became a niche product.

Ropes made of hemp fibres are an underestimated alternative to conventional synthetic ropes.

They have a higher abrasion resistance than natural cotton ropes and are more robust and durable than them. In addition, they can absorb eight per cent of their own weight in water, which means that despite this they do not feel wet or lose grip.

Nevertheless, the ropes should not be left to the weather, as these products can also rot if they are permanently damp.

A big advantage to synthetic ropes is also their high heat resistance. Friction produces less heat, reducing the risk of burning your hands when the horse pulls on the lead .

Hemp ropes are firmer than synthetic fibre ropes and therefore hang more calmly in the air during the groundwork . This prevents confusion when giving aid, as the rope does not swing unnecessarily. This allows for more direct communication between horse and rider. Even though the rope is more rigid than conventional groundwork ropes, it feels comfortable in the hand due to its round braiding and also becomes softer over time.

Hemp ropes & hemp lunges for the groundwork/lunging at Picadera

The hemp ropes at Picadera are available in two different lengths. The ropes with a length of six metres are ideal for groundwork or handwork with the horse. The eight metre version is perfect for lunging. The hemp ropes have a ten centimetre leather sheath at the end. The rope is fastened to the cavesson or halter via a leather buckle and thus lies particularly smoothly on the horse's head. The hemp ropes are available in brown and black leather.
