Saddle Pads

Saddle Pads from Picadera

Let's face it - the outfit of your horse is actually only complete with the matching, pretty Saddle Pad. But of course it serves not only the beautiful appearance, but also fulfills other important functions.

Function of saddle pads and saddle cloths

Saddle pads absorb sweat, tallow and dirt from the horse and at the same time protect the saddle from exactly that. They are also designed to act as a breathable interlayer between the horse's back and the saddle, preventing heat buildup on your horse's back. And last but not least, the saddle pad serves as a light shock absorber between the saddle and the back.

What distinguishes the Saddle Pad from a numnah?

A saddle pad differs from a numnah by its basic shape. With a numnah, this always follows the shape of the saddle. The outline of the numnah therefore corresponds to the shape of a dressage saddle, jumping saddle or eventing saddle.

The Saddle Pad , on the other hand, always resembles a rectangle in its outline. The edges of this rectangle can be angular or rounded, for example, depending on the model. In addition, there are especially in the baroque riding Saddle Pads, which taper off. This is called a curved Saddle Pad.

At the end of the day, the rectangular shape of the Saddle Pad is mainly for looks. Especially in classical dressage and baroque riding, it is hardly common anymore to use numnahs in saddle shape.

Structure of a Saddle Pad

Saddle pads from Picadera have an anatomically shaped back line to ensure the best possible fit and ideal comfort for your horse. They are also equipped with girth and/or saddle loops to prevent slipping under the saddle and make it easier to saddle your horse.

Saddle Pads Cotton

Due to its many positive properties, cotton is considered the classic material for Saddle Pads. It not only defies sweat, dirt and sebum and is incredibly easy to care for. It can also absorb a lot of moisture, is breathable and particularly skin-friendly for your horse.

Saddle Pads made of cotton le are made with quilting to give the saddle pad dimensional stability.

At Picadera you will find a great selection of Baroque Saddle Pads made of cotton in a curved shape. An optional gold or silver colored border make them a special eye-catcher - perfect for baroque shows, tournaments and events or of course just "for beautiful".

Saddle Pads Wool felt

Felt Saddle Pads are rightly experiencing a true renaissance and many riders are discovering this special material for themselves and their horses. Because like cotton, pure wool felt is a sustainable and durable natural material.

Wool felt is considered self-cleaning and water and dirt repellent due to the wool grease it contains, known as lanolin. In addition, the lanolin ensures that water drops bead off, but water vapor can be transported away. Wool felt can absorb up to a third of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet. Felt Saddle Pads is therefore breathable and temperature-equalizing - for a comfortable climate on the horse's back.

In addition, wool felt is antistatic, which means that dry dirt and dust is attracted less than with other textiles. These properties make the Felt Saddle Pad very easy to clean, so that normally it does not need to be washed, but simply brushed out.

Another important property of wool felt is that it is elastic and shock absorbent, but at the same time it retains its shape. This elasticity means that the Felt Saddle Pad is able to mold to your horse's back without getting "out of shape". At the same time, the wool felt makes the Felt Saddle Pad extremely skin-friendly for your horse and can also prevent hair breakage during the coat change, for example.

At Picadera you will find Felt Saddle Pads made of natural wool felt in a classic dressage shape and a curved baroque version with elaborate decorations made of genuine leather. Our Felt Saddle Pads are handmade for you in Spain.
