Double Bridles

On to the High School - with a double bridle

In classical riding, horses are converted to a curb bit with bradoon after basic training. This means that from now on there is room for two bits in the horse's mouth: A curb bit, a ported or mullen mouth bit with shanks and the so-called bradoon, which has a smaller diameter than a normal snaffle bit. Because there are two bits in the horse's mouth, it is also ridden with two pairs of reins. Most of the time, the young horse adapts well to the curb bit with bradoon . At first the leather curb reins - which is usually a little narrower than the snaffle rein - can still be placed on the neck or taken very loosely. Gradually the horse gets used to the effect of the curb bit.

In order to buckle both bits, a special double bridle is needed. It differs from the snaffle bridle mainly by an additional crownpiece with cheekpieces.

Double Bridle CORELLI

This Portuguese-style model is perfect as an eye-catcher for special occasions - but equally suitable for everyday training. The curved cortesia buckles and the narrow straps give this double bridle a noble look. On the large, angular heads of Lusitanos - but of course also on any other breed - the CORELLI model looks particularly sleek and stylish.

Colours and fit

The double bridle CORELLI also fits thoroughbreds and warmbloods very well, as most straps can be adjusted either very long or very short.

The crownpiece is anatomically cut behind the ears to take pressure off this sensitive area. As is usual with a snaffle bridle, the noseband is guided through two flaps in the cheek pieces. In the double bridle, the curb bit is buckled into this strap. The bridoon is buckled into the additional cheek piece strap in such a way that the two bits do not overlap in the horse’s mouth.

Because the double bridle should match the colour of the rest of the equipment, it is available in three leather colours - each with silver or gold Cortesia buckles. This way, no compromises have to be made.

A bridle for the whole training

Another plus point of this decorative bridle is its great flexibility. Thanks to the removable crownpiece with cheekpiece , it can be used both for riding on a snaffle and for riding on a curb bit with one or two reins. To ride on a curb bit with bradoon, just slide the additional crownpiece with cheekpiece back under the crownpiece .

Once purchased, you have all the possibilities. It can make sense to buy a double bridle for a young horse, to train it first on a snaffle and then to change it to a curb bit with bradoon . The double bridle CORELLI can take this long journey without any problems if it is well cared for due to its excellent quality.
