Traditional Baucher bit made of black burnished iron with solid ported mouthpiece with low port. Bit thickness 20 mm. With Spanish style flat sides. For horses with sensitive mouth angles, we recommend the use of bit guards made of rubber, as is common with the Iberian curb or pelhalms. The Baucher bit is made by Lopez in Spain.

Effect of the Baucher bit

The buckling on the bridle is done via the short upper trees. In combination with the unbroken ported mouthpiece the Baucher bit lies thereby very calmly and stably in the mouth. Many horses like the ported mouthpiece because it lies evenly on the tongue and is cushioned by it. The low port relieves the middle of the tongue, making the bit particularly suitable for horses with fleshy tongues. The slight play at the junction between mouthpiece and the upper trees also promotes chewing activity. Through natural oxidation processes and the formation of noble rust, the burnished iron stimulates salivation.

The Baucher bit is used without curb chain and has no leverage. Instead, when the reins are pulled, the bit moves more towards the corner of the mouth and works there. This results in a uplifting effect for many horses.

The right size for the Baucher bit

Under "Size guide" (see above) you will find the real dimensions of the mouthpiece. If you are unsure, we recommend that you compare the real dimensions of your existing bit with those of the Baucher bit to find the correct size. Please note that the side pieces should fit close to the corners of your horse's mouth. If your horse fluctuates between two sizes, we recommend you choose the larger size for this model.

Care instructions for burnished iron

Rust forms on traditional burnished products or product components after some time. This is due to natural oxidation processes and is not a quality defect, but an essential and desired characteristic of this material. To maintain the dark color, it is recommended to occasionally rub the parts concerned with a cloth soaked in olive oil.
