Portuguese Curb Bit in Balao style

Classic, silver-colored Curb Bit, as it is often used in Portugal. The slight, vertical play of the mouthpiece encourages the horse to chew. This makes it easier to loosen the jaw, neck and therefore the entire horse's back. The ported mouthpiece with low port relieves the middle of the tongue, making the bit suitable for horses with normal to fleshy tongues. For horses with sensitive corners of the mouth, we recommend the additional use of bit guards.

Effect & use of the bit

The light sliding cheek allows the horse to move the mouthpiece rhythmically up and down. This helps mouthy horses and horses with very little mouth activity to relax the jaw better. This also relaxes the neck and ultimately the horse's entire body more easily.

The Portuguese Curb Bit can be used bare with one or two pairs of reins. The use with two pairs of reins offers a wonderful alternative to the combination Curb Bit-bradoon for horses with a short mouth gap and little space in the mouth. The Curb Bit is also suitable for use with a bradoon due to the particularly thin mouthpiece.

The right size for the Curb Bit

Under "Size guide" (see above) you will find the real dimensions of the mouthpiece. If you are unsure, we recommend that you compare the real dimensions of your existing bit with those of the Portuguese Curb Bit to find the right size. Please note that the side pieces should fit close to the corners of your horse's mouth. If your horse fluctuates between two sizes, we recommend that you choose the larger size for this model.
