Description
Curb Bit Portuguese style from Sweet Iron
Classic Curb Bit, as it is often used in Portugal. The light, vertical play of the mouthpiece promotes the horse's chewing activity. This facilitates the loosening of the jaw, neck and thus the entire horse's back. The optimized and anatomically shaped Mullen Mouth ported mouthpiece is readily accepted by many horses, as it lies very evenly on the tongue and is cushioned by it. Through natural oxidation processes and the formation of noble rust, the burnished iron stimulates salivation. For horses with sensitive mouth angles, we recommend the use of bit guards due to the movable connection between side piece and mouthpiece .

Effect & Usage of Portuguese Curb Bit
The Portuguese Curb Bit has a less direct action due to its movable side pieces compared to curb bits with firmly welded mouthpiece. This allows the horse to play more with the mouthpiece and rein aids arrive less directly. The light sliding cheek allows the horse to move the mouthpiece rhythmically up and down. Mouthy horses and horses with very little mouth activity this helps to relax the jaw better. This also loosens the neck and ultimately the entire body of the horse more easily.
The Portuguese Curb Bit can be used blank with one or two pairs of reins. The use with two pairs of reins offers a wonderful alternative to the combination Curb Bit-bradoon for horses with short mouth gaps and little space in the mouth.
The right size for the Curb Bit
Under "Size guide" (see above) you will find the real dimensions of the mouthpiece. If you are unsure, we recommend that you compare the real dimensions of your existing bit with those of the Portuguese Curb Bit to find the correct size. Please note that the side pieces should fit close to the corners of your horse's mouth. If your horse fluctuates between two sizes, we recommend you choose the larger size for this model.
Care instructions for burnished iron
Rust forms on traditional burnished products or product components after some time. This is due to natural oxidation processes and is not a quality defect, but an essential and desired characteristic of this material. To maintain the dark color, it is recommended to occasionally rub the parts concerned with a cloth soaked in olive oil.
