Baucher bit with single jointed mouthpiece made of gold-colored brass. The ornate side pieces with floral pattern in Portuguese Cortesia style make the Baucher bit a baroque eye-catcher. The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12 mm.

The vertical play at the connection between mouthpiece and side parts - similar to a bit with sliding cheek - promotes chewing activity. The horse can position the mouthpiece, in contrast to a Baucher bit with a fixed connection, somewhat more in the mouth. This also means that rein aids, similar to a loose ring snaffle bit, are less direct. This also compensates for slightly unsteady hands, for example.

Due to the movable connection between the side pieces and mouthpiece , we recommend the use of rubber bit guards for this bit , as is common for many Iberian bits.

The Baucher bit is made exclusively for Picadera in a manufactory in Portugal.

Effect of the Baucher bit

The bridle is buckled via the oval eyelets on the upper shanks. The shape of the side pieces causes the baucher bit to be more stable in the mouth and offers a lateral adjustment possibility via the pressure on the horse's cheek. Another special feature of this side piece shape is that the mouthpiece sags less downwards compared to other bits, such as loose ring snaffle bit, olive, D-ring or full cheek snaffle bit. Even when chewing, it can only be moved minimally in the direction of the incisors and has an almost straight position in the horse's mouth, similar to a ported bar mouthpiece. This makes the baucher bit suitable for all horses with little space in the mouth and/or a short mouth gap.

The Baucher bit is used without curb chain and has no leverage. Instead, when the reins are pulled, the bit moves more towards the corner of the mouth and works there. This results in a uplifting effect for many horses.

The right size for the Baucher bit

In our experience, you can choose your horse's usual size for this bit . For a correct influence and aids, the side pieces of the Baucher bit should be close to the corners of the horse's mouth. If your horse fluctuates between two sizes, we recommend you choose the larger size with this model.
