Lightweight cavesson for lunging in the Spanish style Serreta
Model SERRETA is the Spanish lightweight and fit miracle among the cavessons. The flat, firm noseband is covered with leather and ensures a stable hold while allowing precise control. This makes the cavesson ideal for lunging and for the bitless in-hand work . Additional, unpleasant shearing forces are avoided as the noseband has no joints in the nose area.
The optimized shape of the noseband fits a variety of horse noses of different breeds and sits securely even when your horse jumps for joy. The centrally positioned ring can be rotated and is suitable for attaching the lunge or a lead rope. The jaw strap can be moved on the cheek strap for individual adjustment and prevents the cheek strap from slipping near the eyes. The buckles of the cavesson are lined with leather so that they do not come into direct contact with the horse's skin.
The cavesson is hand-sewn in Spain. The high-quality metal parts are manufactured in Portugal. Made from brown, vegetable-tanned cowhide with burnished iron fittings. The nose iron has no prongs / teeth like the traditional Spanish Serreta.

Serreta combine with bit
Would you like to use a bit together with the Spanish Serreta ? We recommend the additional use of a semi-bridle with which the bit is simply buckled over the cavesson . This allows you, for example, to gently get your young horse used to the bit . The semi bridle , reins and bit can also be easily removed during the training session, e.g. if you want to warm up your horse with work in hand at bit and then only lunge with cavesson .
In this video we show you how to do it. You can also find the matching reins, semi bridles & crownpiece with cheekpiece in Vaquero style at Picadera.
Size & fit of the cavesson SERRETA with a ring
The cavesson is manufactured in the Iberian one size fits all - perfect for the long and narrow heads of Iberian breeds such as PRE, Andalusian horse or Lusitano. Due to the large adjustment range, in our experience it fits most horses with Cob to Full heads. The length of all straps can be found in our size guide (see above).
Care instructions for burnished iron
Rust forms on traditional, burnished products or product components after some time. This is caused by natural oxidation processes and is not a quality defect, but an essential characteristic of this material. To maintain the dark color, it is advisable to rub the affected parts occasionally with a cloth soaked in olive oil.

I bought the Serreta to get my young horse out of the habit of breaking away (with rope halter!). The rigid noseband and stable seat give me a very direct influence. He only tried it once and immediately changed his mind. Since then, we have been working together harmoniously and he gets his breaks much quicker, without any conflicts. The Serreta is visually very nice, but not mega-soft (rigid nose bow, no padding)... when used correctly, it is effective without being mean. Maybe half a star deduction because the leather could be a bit softer... I don't regret my purchase! 🙂
Thank you very much for the great and detailed review ☺️ I am very pleased that you are so happy with our Serreta cavesson and that your horse is taking to it so well, so that you can now work together harmoniously😊 It is very characteristic of the particularly stable Spanish leather that it feels rather firm at first. Over the course of use and with occasional greasing, it then becomes as soft as butter.
I wish you many more beautiful rides. Best regards, Myriam

Sturdy, yet soft leather. The noseband fits like a glove on my Andalusian horse and the rest of the bridle is very easy to adjust.

The straps are sufficiently flexible in length, width and position to allow this cavesson to be adapted to the horse's head. Although the noseband fitted over the nose in the correct position, there was no room for two fingers underneath. With a great deal of effort, we were able to widen it slightly so that it now fits perfectly.
The material and workmanship of the cavesson are wonderful.
Dear Kornelia, thank you very much for your review. I am pleased that you are happy with the material and workmanship of the Serreta cavesson ☺️super that the noseband now fits. Please note: the manufacturer does not recommend bending the noseband afterwards as this impairs the dimensional stability and longevity of the noseband. Kind regards Myriam
