Classic Curb Bit, as it is often used in Portugal, made of gold-colored brass. The slight vertical play of the mouthpiece encourages the horse's chewing activity. This facilitates the loosening of the jaw, nape and thus the entire horse's back. The ported mouthpiece with low port relieves pressure on the center of the tongue, making the bit suitable for horses with normal to fleshy tongues. For horses with sensitive mouth angles, we recommend the additional use of bit guards.
The light sliding cheek allows the horse to move the mouthpiece rhythmically up and down. This helps mouthy horses and horses with very little mouth activity to relax their jaws better. This also loosens the neck and ultimately the entire body of the horse more easily.
The Portuguese Curb Bit can be used blank with one or two pairs of reins. The use with two pairs of reins offers a wonderful alternative to the combination Curb Bit-bradoon for horses with short mouth gaps and little space in the mouth. Equally, however, the Curb Bit is also suitable for use with a bradoon due to the particularly thin mouthpiece.
Under "Size guide" (see above) you will find the real dimensions of the mouthpiece. If you are unsure, we recommend that you compare the real dimensions of your existing bit with those of the Portuguese Curb Bit to find the correct size. Please note that the side pieces should fit close to the corners of your horse's mouth. If your horse fluctuates between two sizes, we recommend you choose the larger size for this model.
