You are still looking for the right cavesson for your horse and do not know which model is right? Then you are at the right place. In this article we present you in detail our cavesson Serreta in Spanish style.

Structure of the Serreta

Nose iron: The Serreta has a firm leather covered nose iron that has a flat, optimized shape to fit many horse noses. The nose iron ensures a stable fit and stays in place even during joy jumps. In addition, it allows the horse to be acted upon very precisely. Since the nose iron is jointless, there are also no undesirable shearing forces.

Rings: The Serreta is available in a one- and three-ring version. The middle ring is always rotatable and allows the lunge to rotate during lunging. The outer rings of the three-ring version are close to the nose part and thus do not interfere with lunging.

Straps: The cavesson has a jaw strap and a crownpiece with cheek piece. The straps are adjustable for an optimal fit. In addition, the jaw strap can be individually moved and adjusted to the horse's eye. This prevents the cheek strap from slipping too close to the horse's eye.

At Picadera we offer the Serreta in traditional Spanish design with burnished fittings and the Serreta Iberico in Portuguese style with chic Cortesia buckles. Both models are available in a one-ring version and a three-ring version. Here you can find an overview of both cavessons.

What are the advantages of cavesson Serreta ?

  • Hand - and groundwork: Via the rings on the flat and padded nose iron, it is possible to act very directly on the horse. This allows a precise explanation of the aids during the hand - and groundwork.
  • Lunge: The center ring on the nose iron of the Serreta is pivoted. This makes it perfect for buckling lunges & ropes, as it rotates with the movements of the lunge . An additional plus point is the fixed nose iron, which does not slip during lunging. This allows very precise and direct action, making the Serreta also ideal for training young horses.
  • Bitless Riding: The outer rings of the Serreta Pro version are very suitable for buckling reins . This allows fine riding without bit. Even a young horse can be explained the first aids before you get him used to a bit .
  • cavesson combine with bit : In Spain, the Serreta is traditionally used very often for riding in combination with a bit . For this purpose, the additional use of a semi bridle is recommended. This is then simply buckled with the bit over the cavesson . This allows flexibility during the training session, because the semi bridle with bit can easily be removed again. A young horse can also be gently accustomed to a bit in this way.

Manufacture, quality and fit of the Serreta

Since we attach great importance to quality and we want our customers to enjoy our products for a long time, our cavesson Serreta is exclusively handmade in Spain. For the leather straps, durable vegetable tanned cowhide is used in the production. The cavessons are sewn with a saddler's seam, this is in contrast to a machine seam much more durable, because each stitch is knotted individually. The high-quality fittings made of burnished iron and the Cortesia buckles also come from Spain.

Produced the Serreta in the Iberian one size. We have found that it fits a variety of horse noses with Cob- and Full heads thanks to the optimized nose iron. If you are unsure about the size, please have a look at the size guide. You will find it directly with all our cross bridles.

Differences from the traditional Spanish Serreta

In Spain and the Iberian Peninsula, the Serreta is very popular and is often used in horse training. The serretas used here often have small teeth on the inside of the nose iron. At Picadera we sell the Serreta in a horse-friendly version. It has a flat nose iron without teeth or serrations. We have also done away with the traditional long pilars to which the rings on the nose iron are attached. Our cavesson Serreta has close fitting rings with short pilars so they do not interfere with buckling the lunge .

Traditional classic reinterpreted

The cavesson Serreta is considered a traditional Spanish classic and is a great companion in horse training. It can be used flexibly and thanks to its stable seat it is also suitable for training a young horse. In the three-ring version you also have the option of using the Serreta as a bitless bridle.

Hi, I'm Myriam and I'm responsible for customer service and shipping at Picadera . I am also currently doing further training in marketing.
Since horses have always played a big role in my family, I was able to gain a lot of experience at a young age. The two English thoroughbreds Antarro and Belle Indomita have been part of the family for some time now.
In addition, my riding partner Lukas, a German riding pony, has been my faithful companion for many years. A pretty good teacher who has taught me a lot and helped me to improve my riding skills. As Lukas has now reached retirement age, we mainly spend our time on beautiful cross-country rides and free work from the ground.
