The production of special size dentures

Most bits come standard in 12.5 and 13.5, as these are the most commonly used bit sizes and fit a variety of horses with different stall sizes perfectly.

In modern horse breeding, however, the heads are now often becoming more and more filigree, the mouth gaps shorter and the palates flatter. In bit production, this means that smaller and smaller bit sizes are becoming necessary.

On the other hand, bits in 14.5 and 15.5 already tends to belong to the larger sizes. For many of our bits we can still offer you these sizes. Just use the filter function in our online store. bits in 16.5 and larger already belong to the exotics among the bit sizes.

Now we receive feedback from our customers again and again that they are looking for a somewhat smaller or even larger bit for their horse than we offer as standard.

In general, size extensions are not easy to implement for every denture model. For brass bits , for example, a new tool or a new mold is required for each size. This mold must be able to finance itself through subsequent sales. This means that if a denture size is too special or there is actually too little demand for it, it is often not possible to produce special sizes, especially for small productions, from an economic point of view.

Baucher bits in 11,5 for Icelandic horse, Arabian horse, small horse & Co.

For petite mouths, we offer three different Baucher bit models, all of which are characterized by a particularly thin mouthpiece . This means that they require as little space as possible in your horse's mouth, but still provide a flat pressure distribution. For example, the ported mouthpiece of the Baucher bit Fine Line is based on the horse's anatomy and flattens towards the middle of the tongue. This means that it requires very little space in the direction of the horse's palate.

Single broken Baucher bits in 11,5

The Baucher bit Slim made of stainless steel and Sweet Copper has a particularly thin 12 mm mouthpiece and inward and outward pivoting side piece. This means that, despite the broken mouthpiece, it lies more quietly in the horse's mouth than, for example, a loose ring snaffle bit.

The Baucher bit Vaquero from Sweet Iron is also very thin at 13 mm. However, its side pieces not only swivels: it also allows the mouthpiece to play up and down. This allows the horse to play a little more with the mouthpiece. In addition, the reins are slightly delayed - this also forgives somewhat unsteady hands.

The Baucher bit Fine Line made of stainless steel and Sweet Copper has a 12 mm thin ported mouthpiece, which flattened anatomically towards the middle and thus requires particularly little space in the area of the palate. Perfect for sensitive horses with little space in the mouth, which need a bit that lies particularly quiet.

Baucher bits in 16,5 and 17,5 for cold blooded horses

For striking mouths we offer you the Baucher bit Vaquero with single broken or optimized Mullen Mouth barmouthpiece. Both models are not too thick, so that pressure distribution and space requirements in the mouth are balanced.

Our Spanish classic, the Baucher bit Vaquero from Sweet Iron, is available not only in small but also in large sizes. For Baucher bits with side pieces with vertical play up and down, we recommend the use of bit guards to protect the corners of the mouth.

Baucher bits with ported mouthpiece in 16.5 and 17.5

The Baucher bit Vaquero Mullen Mouth from Sweet Iron is our second very popular model in Spanish design. Due to the long drawn curvature of the mouthpiece and the thickness of 15 mm it offers a lot of space for the horse's tongue without taking up too much space towards the palate.

The right size for the Baucher bit

Some online stores propagate that the Baucher bit should always be selected one size smaller. We cannot confirm this from our many years of experience with our Baucher bits. In general, we recommend that you choose our Baucher bits in your horse's usual size. This way the chance is highest that the bit actually fits.

For the fit, it is important to make sure that the side pieces of the Baucher bit are close to the corners of the mouth. This may look unusual at first, but it ensures that you can act correctly with the bit . In addition, the comfort for your horse is higher. Even if the soft parts of the mouth and the horse's lips can hide it: the loading edges inside the horse's mouth run comparatively close together, so it is enormously important that the bit cannot slip back and forth.

💡 If you want to use your Baucher bit with bit guards made of rubber, this does not affect the size selection. That said, you should still choose your horse's usual size and not intentionally choose a larger size. Since the bit guards are flexible, in our experience they do not affect the fit of the bit.
